This weekend we started to play the free game Stranded Deep. Like previously mentioned you have to test your survival skills. ‘’In the aftermath of a mysterious plane crash, you are stranded in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Alone, without any means to call for help, you must do what you can to survive. Explore underwater and on land as you hunt for supplies to craft the tools, weapons, and shelter you’ll need to stay alive. Stay sharp: hunger, thirst, and exposure conspire against you as you brave treacherous elements and the dangerous creatures of the Pacific.’’
Before we could play the game had to preload some items, what took a little longer than expected and kind of take away the excitement to play. By starting a new game, it is possible to select your gender, the world, permadeath and wildlife. Once selected all the options the game will start. It is not possible to dress your person differently. The gender doesn’t have any influence on the ability of the characters, and you won’t be able to see your character other than their arm and hand.
The game starts with a plane crashing into the ocean and you’ve to find the exit and raft to an abandoned island. Once on the island the game start with different quests to give some guidance. When first playing the game, this is very helpful. However, it is better to not rush yourself in all the quests and firstly explore the island. You could miss some experiences what make the game better.
The first time we started we directly followed the quests and our inventory became so full we didn’t have enough space to complete some tasks. A bit frustrated that we weren’t be able to complete the tasks we started again with a different approach.
We recommend finding a nice play to drop all the stuff you’ve been gathering so if the night falls, you can immediately start to build a shelter or some fire before you can’t see anything. By dropping everything in the same spot it makes it easier to find stuff back to. If you drop some things on the left side of the island and on the other side, you’ll make it just harder for yourself to complete some quests. Just don’t drop anything on one big pile. Drop it organized, for example drop the sticks you’ll find on the far left, the coconuts in the middle and some stones on the right. This way it makes it simple to know where things are and what you need.
When gattered a lot of equipment it’s time to follow the quests. After that you should keep your eye on your watch where some vital elements are displayed. Such as your hunting skills, the amount of food you need to eat, when you need to hydrate and more.
All with all it is a fun game to play, you simple don’t need to rush it. If you only have half an hour to play, we wouldn’t recommend it to play it, if you got an hour, then definitely do! Just have in knowledge every time the game starts it has to preload items. We hoped it would just apply when first starting the game and when having it installed it would be ready to go. But that is not the case. The game gives some great challenges and you can make some quality shelters you wouldn’t expect you could. So, prepare yourself for some nice gameplay when you’ve the time for it!
